911 Calls, Police Logs Show First Minutes After Cherry Hill Shopping Plaza Shooting

CHERRY HILL, NJ—Public records obtained by Shore Investigates show the first minutes after a man was reported shot outside a Cherry Hill shopping plaza. The 911 calls and dispatch records show how the response unfolded before police and prosecutors announced charges two days later.

A caller at Phil's Deli Market told 911: "There is a car outside with a gentleman in it. Somebody is holding his chest, saying he was shot."

"I have no idea what the actual scenario was, but we need police and medics out here right away," the caller said, according to a working transcript of the 911 audio obtained by Shore Investigates through New Jersey's Open Public Records Act.

Another caller, near Mimi's nail salon, said, "There's a guy who's bleeding a lot from the right shoulder." The caller said his wife had been sitting in a car nearby and "heard like a big bang, like a shot or something."

Those calls are part of the first public-record trail from the April 15 shooting at a Cherry Hill shopping plaza on Route 70 East. Police and prosecutors later said in a joint public release that a 61-year-old man was shot in a vehicle in the parking lot, taken to Cooper University Hospital, and reported in stable condition.

The records, obtained through New Jersey's Open Public Records Act, show how quickly the call moved from a report of an injured man to a shooting response.

The Call

The first 911 recording runs a little more than a minute. The caller identified the location as Phil's Deli Market in Cherry Hill and gave the address as 2079 Route 70 East.

He told the dispatcher: "There is a car outside with a gentleman in it. Somebody is holding his chest, saying he was shot."

The caller later said someone was holding a towel to the man's chest.

"I just wanted to make sure," the caller said near the end of the call. "I didn't know if it was called or not, but I wanted to make sure it was called in."

A second 911 recording, about two and a half minutes long, placed the caller in front of Mimi's nail shop at 2081. That caller described the person as being in a large blue truck and said, "There's a lot of blood."

The dispatcher asked if the man was conscious and alert, whether there were weapons nearby, and whether there appeared to be any other victims. The caller said he saw one person helping the injured man and did not see a weapon.

What Records Show

A Cherry Hill Police Department computer-aided dispatch report lists the nature of the call as "Shooting." It says the incident was reported at about 3:54 p.m. on April 15, 2026.

The CAD report lists the address as 2079 Route 70 East and the contact as Phil's Deli Market. The radio log shows multiple Cherry Hill Police units going en route within minutes, with officers arriving shortly before and after 4 p.m.

The records were obtained under OPRA, the state law that gives the public the right to request government records. Shore Investigates relies on public records because they let readers see what happened for themselves, not just what officials choose to summarize.

What Police And Prosecutors Say

Two days after the shooting, the Camden County Prosecutor's Office and Cherry Hill Police announced that Terrence Roberts, 52, of Cherry Hill, had been charged in connection with the case.

The official release said detectives determined the victim was shot by Roberts, who was driving a vehicle that pulled alongside the victim's vehicle in the parking lot. Prosecutors said detectives used surveillance footage to track the suspect vehicle to Roberts' residence, where a search led to the seizure of multiple firearms.

Roberts was charged with attempted murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and possessing a large-capacity magazine, according to the official release and Cherry Hill's OPRA response.

Those charges are allegations. Roberts is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
